About us

We are ‘Evolving Events’, a North Devon CIC incorporated in Feb 2025. The aim of Evolving Events CIC is to facilitate soulful, spontaneous, visible and accessible spaces to bring people from all walks of life and cultures together in community, to celebrate joy, love and creative expression through music, art, movement, spoken word, poetry, stories and food, to promote positive mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.

What We Have Done So Far

‘The Sound Lounge’ is a donation-based event popping up monthly at different venues across the North Devon area, inviting people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds to attend. Each creative session is themed around something – we’ve had ‘Earth’, ‘Love’, Transformation’, etc. – and each person is welcome to bring an instrument, a song, a poem, a story, an anecdote or anything they would like to share around the chosen theme, or people can just drop in and listen and enjoy the sessions as observers. Each session is always different, and we also maintain a safe and held space for in-depth discussions around the themes.

We tie the sessions in with Nature and seasonal changes and events throughout the year. We have had amazing feedback and regular attendees so this initiative has been great for bringing the community together creatively. Our other community events have also been curated around phases and special dates in the year – spring and autumn equinox, winter and summer solstices, moon cycles, historical months, artistic themes – in honour of seasons, heritage and traditions in the calendar year and inspires creative expression, joy, unity in our local communities and focuses on the love for what brings us together.

We also collaborate actively with other charities, community groups and CICs in our local area (North Devon), and hold creative events that mutually benefit our target audiences and the organisations themselves.

– We have been co-organising live music and talks at Created Festival for the past two years at The Big Sheep (and will be doing so again this year). Created Festival is a place where curated artists and makers showcase their craft and expertise, including heritage crafts and specialised art. Evolving Events did live interviews with makers, interspersed with live music performances by curated local musicians.

– In June 2025 we organised ‘Embody Wellbeing Day’, where we invited local creatives and practitioners, stall and spaceholders to offer their holistic and wellbeing services, as well as coordinating workshops and classes with facilitators, including yoga, breathwork, men’s circles, conflict management, drumming circle, singing for soul health, pilates, etc. It was a rousing first event, which we would like to replicate in other areas of North Devon as well.

Currently self-funded and looking for funding, we recognise that we need to make this effort sustainable and long-term as well, because of the necessity to support and bring about vibrancy and community in North Devon.

Last year, we also partnered with other similar local charities and organisations such as Studio KIND, mental health charity Mind, Devon Mental Health Alliance, as well as Pickwell Foundation, and Hakeford Woods CIO, just to name a few, to co-create imaginative and inspiring platforms for all kinds of creative expression, bringing together artists, makers, performers, storytellers, poets and many more.

We believe that connection to people, creative inspiration and nature is key, as well as active collaboration with other organisations being the way forward for us to build more resilient local communities.

Benefits and Outcomes

We hope to invite people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures to come together in safe, inclusive, curated and held event spaces to give them opportunities to express themselves in a creative and imaginative manner, celebrating joy, authenticity, connection and inspiration. Our events have increased our participants’ self-esteem and social confidence, encourage them to think creatively, combat loneliness and insecurities, make friends and genuine connections. People who feel they have benefited always come back regularly and some have even established long lasting friendship groups. We get regular feedback from our events and The Sound Lounge sessions, complimenting the ease and joy in participating, better overall mental and emotional health and wellbeing, better self-awareness and deeper connections to community and environment, as well as more confidence to express themselves creatively. Our events challenge inequality by being open and non-judgemental, with careful facilitation and curation.

We can encourage people to make positive and assertive life choices that benefit themselves and others through sharing ideas and values. If our events and sessions are funded, we can offset the cost of participating, which will then help offset living costs.

There has been an increase in people struggling financially, emotionally and mentally, and through conversations with other community groups and individuals as well we realise that there is a urgent need for more safe, cohesive and non-judgmental places and spaces that welcome people from all ages, backgrounds and cultures. With issues of nationwide stigmas of division occurring in recent years, there is a need for people and communities to come together through the celebration of creativity, food, art, music and spoken word.

As directors, our backgrounds are also in conservation and nature connection. We show our awareness of the climate, being plastic-free and and not using disposables as much as possible, being conscious of waste and also keeping our carbon footprint as compact as possible (e.g. car sharing).

As directors we are conscious of consistent honest communication and harmonious working processes, and giving a voice to our beneficiaries and those who are underrepresented, encouraging people to feel safe and seen, share values, ideas and resources creatively as a community.

With the digital age, post-COVID and the increase of AI usage, the way to complement the inevitable progress of digital intelligence is to preserve the human-aspect of authentic in-person connections within our community, and preserve the integrity and channeling of stories from all cultures, traditions and customs so that they can be shared from person to person. It is also vital for us to be inspired and encouraged to share our truths – from experiences passed down through generations to traditional skills and values – in a mindfully curated, non-judgmental creative arts platform. Reading, writing, spoken word, poetry, playing a musical instrument etc. are physical, emotional, mental and motor skills that our younger generation should learn alongside the increase use of technology, and our events ensure there is a platform for such modes of creative expression. Our events also help preserve the autonomy of creativity, celebrating originality, personality and uniqueness, giving everyone an opportunity to express themselves freely, safely and creatively.

Why do our projects need to happen?

In a time of so much division in the world – politics, war, crimes, inequality, ecological and heritage deterioration – it is absolutely vital for humanity to connect authentically through creative endeavours and reflective stories that unite us. Through our creative platforms, events and activities, we encourage people to make positive and assertive life choices that benefit themselves and others through sharing ideas and values. We are conscious of consistent honest communication and harmonious working processes, and giving a voice to our beneficiaries and those who are underrepresented, encouraging people to feel safe and seen, share their values, ideas and resources creatively and authentically as a community.

Through conversations with other community groups and individuals as well we realise that there is an urgent need for more safe, cohesive and non-judgmental places and spaces that welcome people from all ages, backgrounds and cultures, to express themselves with confidence, feel supported and be creative. There is a need for people and communities to come together through the celebration of creativity, food, art, music, spoken word, culture and heritage.

As directors, in addition to being involved in the professional music and arts industries, our backgrounds are also in conservation and nature connection. In a time where Nature conservation and the preservation of our ecology, ecosystems and our connection to Nature is at the forefront of people’s wellbeing, we also aim to organise our events in natural spaces, where creativity and nature meet in the most symbiotic way for individual and community wellbeing.

Our projects give space to authentic in-person connections within our community, and a chance for amazing stories from all cultures, traditions and customs to be shared. Our series of events will allow stories and cultures to stay alive across generations, across communities, and also shared as traditional skills, experiences, customs and values – aligned with the natural world, seasonal changes and a mindfully curated, non-judgmental creative arts platform. We encourage activities like reading, writing, music, spoken word, poetry and performance, allowing people from all backgrounds, ages and cultures to be able to express themselves in a creative way, in the process paying homage to artists and performers past and present, who have significantly influenced our modern creatives and till today have still been inspiring people.

Our events will also take place in natural spaces including protected woodland, by rivers, in fields, and in line with our nature-minded and conservation ethos, will encourage environmental sustainability and connection to the land in the spirit of our ancestors, while encouraging cultural traditions and heritage skills to thrive and be accessible to all our event participants.
